Through the eyes of Alexandru, a history teacher, Crudu weaves together the traumatic history of the region—from the Siberian deportations of the 1940s and the Transnistrian War to the current tensions in Chișinău. It is a world of documented precision where political intrigue and violence meet moments of extreme tenderness, black humor, and even a passion for football.
