Kurzbeschreibung

Post colonial narratives in the contemporary literature of ex-soviet countries.

Beschreibung

The legacy of empire continues to shape how literature is written, translated, published, and read. This panel aims to examine how contemporary writers address post-colonial realities—whether through language, narrative form, memory, identity, or resistance. The event brings together authors whose work engages with themes of historical violence, cultural domination, collective trauma, and the struggle for representation. Through their writing, these authors challenge dominant narratives and question who has the right to speak, who is heard, and which voices remain invisible.
The discussion will focus on how post-colonial experiences appear in literature, both explicitly and implicitly: in the choice of language, in the silences between memories, in the politics of translation, and in the subtle power structures embedded within storytelling itself. The conversation will explore the links between literature and power, asking how writers from formerly dominated or marginalized cultures navigate the global literary space today. It will also reflect on whether European audiences are ready to listen - and how wider post-colonial perspectives can enter into genuine dialogue.
