On this last night, when Jesus descends from heaven, he wants to redeem humanity. But his very first encounter causes him to doubt this plan.
Finland on New Year's Eve. While everyone is out celebrating, a refugee sits alone in his accommodation. At first, he has only wine for company, but then Jesus Christ descends from heaven via a ladder and takes a seat at his table. He has come to accomplish what he failed to do the first time: to save humanity. His one and only miracle is to proclaim the message of love. His counterpart, a caring devil's advocate, doubts this plan and wants to dissuade Jesus from it, because people have not become any better since Golgotha. ‘They will murder you again! Those who sow love reap bloodshed.’ The man who fled violence and persecution thus tries to save the Saviour. And this despite the fact that Jesus had stolen the love of his life. This last night, in which Jesus descends, tells of the great questions of a humanity that cannot live in peace. This leads to a touching encounter with a saviour who is astonishingly human.
