ZKM-Verlag (ZKM Publishing House) – From Practice for Practice
Educational resources with a clear profile – since 1931.
Since 1931, ZKM Publishing House has been the official educational publisher of the Zurich Cantonal Middle School Association (ZKM). What began as a small initiative within the association has, over the decades, developed into an established part of the Swiss educational landscape. Today, ZKM Publishing House is regarded as a committed niche publisher, highly valued well beyond cantonal borders—particularly throughout German-speaking Switzerland.
Guided by the principle “Joy in Learning,” ZKM Publishing House develops practice-oriented teaching materials that can be used directly in the classroom and that also effectively support learners and accompanying adults at home. All materials are created in close collaboration with authors from educational practice and are consistently aligned with the needs of teachers, parents, and learners.
The range of educational resources covers all school subjects as well as cross-curricular topics and is primarily aimed at the middle school level, while also taking other school levels into account. All newly produced teaching materials are aligned with Curriculum 21 (Lehrplan 21). The titles are designed to deliberately complement the existing offerings of major publishers, with the goal of providing targeted, field-tested, and easy-to-use solutions.
The publishing house enjoys particular recognition in the area of preparation for entry into upper secondary school (Gymnasium). These teaching materials are used throughout German-speaking Switzerland and successfully support children, parents, and teachers on the path to Gymnasium.
Following a significant professionalization push in 2014—with new publishing management, a revised product range, and strategic marketing—the publishing house now presents itself as modern, practice-oriented, and customer-focused. The dedicated team currently consists of four people and is based in Winterthur.
